Guerilla Galleries shop window05 February 2014 – Forget pop-up shops Guerilla Galleries are hijacking London shop windows with a view to share affordable art with the masses. A gallery spokesman said: “We’ve identified a few windows with terrific footfall and will be mounting our first art incursions with many more to follow.”
The direct action comes in response to public demand for the revolutionary art collective to up the ante by sharing work using tradition methods.
“Shows require people to come into the gallery spaces taking over a window allows the street-side viewer that casual freedom to enjoy the art without coming lol!.”
Windows art-viewers seeking assistance can use smart phone technology to get artist details, purchase price and additional info by scanning its bar code.
According to the guerillas, its first active window will feature up to 12 works of urban art .
“We’re not looking to frighten anyone, but just provide that a platform where emerging artists can reach new audiences – the streets is where it’s at.”
